It has a list of free Government Grants and Assistance. Though it’s a little harder to follow then some other resources that are available it does allow you to search through available grants by keywords, category or topic. Once you find the perfect grant, you have to make sure that you really understand the Eligibility Requirements. Understanding these government grant requirements and making sure you are qualified before you apply for government grants will save you a lot of time and headache.

Something else to keep in mind when applying for government grants is that they are not available all year round. Certain grants are only available during certain times of the years, so you need to ensure application deadlines prior to submission. You don’t want all your hard work to be done in vain. Just remember you can only apply when you have a green light from the government agency that is offering the grant.

The Government agency comes up with the funding for the grant. Once this is met, it announces to the Federal Register that the grant is available.

One must remember that researching the right grant, finding the one that is right for you, and applying for government grants may take a lot of time and effort on your end. The forms are not simply filled up and sent in like how you do with credit card issuers. It does not work that way.

For one, grants are very competitive. Since this is some sort of “free lunch,” a lot of people line up for it to be able to have a grant. However, government agencies sift through all these proposals and only approve those they have a gut feeling on who would make the most out of the money they lent them.

There are some government agencies that would only provide funds to a specific kind of cost or expenses. Therefore, these government agencies will not be able to fully back the grantee up with the entire expenses.
